Videolarm Protects Travelers on Wood Covered Bridge
Decatur, GA - (3/28/07) - New wood covered bridge of yesteryear-design incorporates state-of-the-art video surveillance camera system from Videolarm to protect travelers.
Admired for their beauty and sense of nostalgia, wood covered bridges have been captivating travelers for years. Once a popular construction type, with over 200 in Illinois, now only a handful of wood covered bridges remain in the state. The popular Red Covered Bridge of Princeton, IL, rightfully named for its rustic red color, continues to entice artists, photographers and romancers to its awe-inspiring build. In continuing to captivate by passers, Bureau County officials in Princeton, IL, recently constructed a new wood covered bridge just 1 mile west of the city. This new bridge, named Captain Swift, embodies a similar look of the famous Red Covered Bridge.

New Captain Swift Bridge w/ Video Surveillance System
After its construction, the new Captain Swift bridge, two-lane - 28 fet wide and 16.3 feet high, began to experience heavy traffic from local traffic and tourists. Concerned with the bridges location, outside the city limits, and the great volume of traffic, county officials quickly agreed upon the need of adding some type of security to monitor travelers on the new bridge. After reviewing several surveillance options, a video surveillance system proved to be the most cost-effective and ideal solution.
After researching several video surveillance scenarios, State Design Engineer, Clark Ditez, developed an optimal video system which include the technological advanced products of Videolarm, Inc. - Leaders in IP Camera / CCTV Accessories.
The factors behind Ditez's decision to include Videolarm's AP8C-9: Pressurized Outdoor Environment Camera System into the Captain Swift bridge project were:
- Fully pressurized fixed camera housing with an IP67 rating for the prevention of water and dust into system, which could lead to costly repairs.
- Vandal-Resistant construction: cast aluminum tubular body
- 23x zoom true day/night camera for optimal video quality
Videolarm's highly acclaimed customer service and product warranty programs also lead to deciding factors for the project.
