PolEvator Installation at the University of Maryland

In 2001 officials at the University of Maryland installed several PolEvators in a new parking deck on campus. Craig Chucker, Division Manager for Security Technology and Building Security Systems at the university, told us that the units were chosen for their ease of use. The PolEvator will allow our technicians the ability to service cameras without the need of ladders or a bucket truck, Chucker said. The units were mounted on the roof of the parking deck, in each corner, and in the center, allowing a view down the central ramp. Chucker stated that the university was looking to get the maximum coverage using the fewest cameras possible. The PolEvator™ was the answer . The only other option for mounting the cameras would have been to locate them on the sides of the building. This would not have allowed the coverage we wanted in the parking lot and surrounding areas. "The installation seemed easy and straight forward," Chucker added, "all of the prep work and conduit runs were done during the construction of the deck, so the final work was easier." Another manufacturer's camera system is currently being used on each PolEvator™. Monitoring is handled by the Department of Public Safety's Building Security Systems Group and is housed in the Pocomoke building. Chucker stated that the university is considering future PolEvator™ installations on campus because of the effectiveness of these units.
